‘The 20 etudes for piano were composed during the years from 1991 to 2012. Their final configuration into Book 1 and Book 2 was determined by the music itself in the course of its composition.

Book 1 (Etudes Nos. 1 through 10) had a twin objective - to explore a variety of tempi, textures, and piano techniques. At the same time, it was meant to serve as a pedagogical tool by which I would improve my piano playing. In these two ways, Book 1 succeeded very well. I learned a great deal about the piano and in the course of learning the music, I became a better player. … ‘

Rami Sarieddine is a Cypriot pianist recognized for his expressive musicianship, refined sound and thoughtful approach to contemporary and classical repertoire. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in concerts and festivals across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, the United States, and, most recently, South Africa, earning praise for his artistic sensitivity and compelling stage presence.

 

A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London and the New England Conservatory in Boston, he subsequently earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance with distinction from the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music. His principal teachers included Patsy Toh, Gabriel Chodos, and John Perry.

 

His repertoire spans from the Baroque to the 21st century, with a particular interest in music that explores color, structure, and emotional depth. In this recital, he performs Philip Glass’s Etudes, Book 1, a landmark collection that combines rhythmic vitality, meditative lyricism, and formidable technical demands. Through these works, Sarieddine invites audiences into a deeply personal musical journey, highlighting the expressive richness and architectural clarity of Glass’s writing
